The next few big gigs (Howard Marks, Focus, Fish, Dodgy and more!)
Hi guys, hope you’re enjoying sunny Swansea! Just here to let you know about a few upcoming gigs with some well known people!
Friday October 6th – An evening with Glen Matlock
Glen Matlock is one of the most respected, if underrated British musicians. In a career that has spanned over thirty years, Glen has made indelible contributions to music as the original bass player with The Sex Pistols, formed the underrated Rich Kids, worked with a variety of artists ranging from Iggy Pop, fellow original School of ’76 Brit Punk Rockers The Damned, through to neo-rockabilly singer… Robert Gordon, whilst pursuing his own musically distinctive direction where melodic and inventive rock music thrives. Tickets are £10 advanced, more info here.
Tuesday November 1st – Howard Marks is Mr. Nice (Clown’s Pocket Comedy Club)
Former drug smuggler extraordinaire, MI6 agent, notorious raconteur, best selling author and now the subject of a major Hollywood movie. The Clown’s Pocket Comedy Club are proud to present Howard’s new show at on November 1st.
Once an agent for MI6 (Her Majesty’s Secret Service) and the orchestrator of major cannabis deals direct with members of the American CIA, Howard had 43 aliases and over 25 companies world-wide as cover for his truly international smuggling empire. His motivation became the legalisation of cannabis / marijuana, and a determined will to beat the system (he would not trade in any other drug and gave away most of the profits). Tickets are £15 in advance, more info here.
Wednesday November 9th – Focus
With their unique progressive rock Focus manifested themselves at the start of the seventies as the most successful and the most appreciated of all the Dutch pop-rock exports. More info and tickets are here.
Thursday November 10th – Dodgy
Playing two sets as part of their Autumn tour – their new and unreleased album ‘Stand Upright In A Cool Place’, and their greatest hits. The first time round, Dodgy were only together for seven years but in that time they sold over a million records worldwide, released three albums and 12 Top 40 singles, including 3 Top 10s and the Top 5 hit Good Enough, still a staple of the Radio 2 playlist; sold out the Brixton Academy for three nights in a row and were awarded an unprecedented 90-minute Saturday evening slot on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival in 1997 just before Radiohead. Not bad, considering that they also partied harder than an Ewok.
Most well know for their 1990s hits Staying Out For the Summer and Good Enough, they reformed and played a reunion tour in 2007 and have since gone from strength to strength. Tickets are just £13 advanced, more info here.
Thursday 24th November – Fish
Possibly one of the biggest names we’ve had here – Fish, also known as Derek William Dick former lead singer of Marillion. Always a maverick artist and consummate performer, Fish has achieved a high level of success during his 30 years in the music business and the fact that he is capable of creating an album – 13th Star – regarded by many as the best in his career to date is testament to his enduring talent, resilience and determination.
Fish plays here as part of The Fish Heads Acoustic Tour 2011 – more information and tickets are here.
